| Attention. Warning. NOTE. This page was build so you could learn a little bit about me. My name is Kris Maerke. I am Automatic. There are others but everyone calls me. Below is my blog. It is actually just a set of ideas I think we should be. A set of mental tools if you will. Some are short and other more in depth. I am sure I will offend some. Although it may seem intentional I can promise you it is not. |
Let me start off my dispensing a little bit of advice. Find out who your best customers are. You know the one that won't even entertain a proposal from your competitor. Spoil them. Find out what they do great. Learn from them. They will be worth more than that framed piece of paper in your office. Great customers make good companies great. Get as many great customers as you can. Having one hundred great customers will trump having a thousand crappy ones.
Now that we have that out the way we can get onto the meat of the matter. Become Great! At least try. If you are going to talk the talk then walk the walk. The talk should not be sensational or even great. It should however be reflective of the walk. I once completed a project for one of my great customers and upon completion of the project, which was done is reasonable time on budget I thought I would get some response from the client. Instead the client tells me thank you they were not surprised, I had done exactly what they had expected. I have met some good people who could talk meritoriously the talk but had absolutely no walk. This is obviously an unattractive quality. Don't be afraid when you drop the ball. At those times my suggestion is that you refer back to the aforementioned "talk the talk" etc, etc. Admit to it. Have enough self respect to at least own up to a mistake. Besides everyone knows you blew it. If you have the integrity to admit to a shortcoming you will be given more room the next time the bowling ball falls out of the juggling circle.
Remember that it is more about tomorrow than today.
Your legacy is what will make the difference. Very few people will ever remember Steve Scott but everyone has heard of Tiger Woods.
Become something. If you are not something yet then act like it. I have read a ton a books and met great leaders who say you have to do what it takes to become something. You will never be a 4 minute mile runner unless you act like and train like one. It is simple facts you have to walk to run and you have to make the right choices for the right things to happen. At the end of the day or month or year or decade you will be something.
